Skogafoss waterfall is a top attraction on Iceland’s southern Ring Road, especially given its proximity to Reykjavik, just a short 2-hour drive.

New Parking Lot at Skogafoss Waterfall

Recently, a large new parking lot has been constructed, replacing the older and smaller lot. Expand the Google map below (double-click on the image) to view the Skogafoss parking lot.

While spacious, and providing ample parking even during peak summer season, the new parking lot is a bit further away (about 500 m from the waterfall), while previously you could park just a stone’s throw away from the falls.

As you can see in the map, the campsite and a public toilet is conveniently located at the parking lot.

Directions to Skogafoss Parking

To get to the parking lot, from Route 1 (aka the Ring Road) turn onto Skogar Road following the signs directing you to Skogafoss (next to the small village of Skogar).

The parking lot is clearly marked near the base of the waterfall.

Skogafoss Parking Hours of Operation

Like Skogafoss waterfall, the Skogafoss waterfall parking lot is open 24×7 throughout the year.

Apart from campers who park here overnight, many visitors specifically come to the waterfall at night during winter, primarily to view the spectacular Northern Lights over the waterfall.

Skogafoss Parking Fees

Historically, parking at Skogafoss has been free of charge.

However, with the recent renovations and the construction of the new parking lot, the local municipality has started charging a modest parking fee to manage the tourist crowds and fund the maintenance and improvements.

The parking fee at Skogafoss is aligned to parking fees at similar attractions, like Seljalandsfoss, and is currently $7.56 or 1,000 ISK.

Skogafoss shows up on the Parka app with a fee of 1,000 ISK for a standard vehicle.

Visitor Tips

With the growth in Iceland’s tourism industry, you can expect even the new parking lot (roughly twice the size of the earlier one) also to reach capacity during peak summer season.

Plan on visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon for the best chance to find a parking spot.
